The view of the central mountain range of the Berchtesgaden Alps shows the beauty of the mountain world and the surrounding nature. in general, the depiction of landscapes played a prominent role in Friedrich's work. An important artist of the Romantic period, whose works still evoke admiration today.

The original hangs in the Alte Nationalgalerie in Berlin and was painted around 1824. It was painted with oil on canvas.
