The exact origin of the orange is unknown, but is it believed from somewhere in Asia, like China or India. The bitter orange was introduced to Italy in the 11th century and mainly grown for medical purposes. The sweet version, the kind of orange that we know, stayed hidden until the late 15th century, when Italian and Portuguese merchants brought trees into the mediterranean area. It didn't take long for the people to figure out what a great fruit the orange is! It was full of juice, tasted delicious and was considered something a luxury item only wealthy people could afford.
Nowadays, the orange is available to all of us and so is our Splashing Orange Kitchen Splashback! It is a fun piece of decoration and a joy to look at! The juice slice of orange was captured by the photographer at just the perfect moment – right when it met the orange juice, creating a fantastic splash that will brighten up any kitchen, no matter what style it is!
