Francisco de Goya at Wall-Art
As a true poet of popular scenes, Francisco de Goya shows us his everyday life in Spain in the 18th century. With a love of detail, he depicts events from his personal surroundings. Vivid colours bring people and landscapes to life. Goya paid particular attention to the play of daylight. His paintings tell of the Spanish aristocracy, the bourgeoisie and the Enlightenment. Most of the pictures that we at Wall-Art have selected for you will bring a flair of cheerfulness and springtime feelings into your four walls.
We at Wall-Art are delighted to present five pictures by the great artist on various image carriers. The art prints are available as canvas pictures, posters, glass pictures, wall prints and hard foam wall pictures. Individual works are also available as acrylic glass pictures or photo wallpaper. Whichever picture medium you choose, Goya will bring a breath of fresh air into your living room and entrance area!
Francisco de Goya: art and life
Francisco de Goya was an artist who was able to make a living from painting during his lifetime. He painted frescoes for churches and worked as a court painter for Charles III and Charles IV. As an important artist of the 18th and 19th centuries, he left behind over 800 paintings, which can be categorised as belonging to different artistic movements. His painting is categorised as surrealism, neoclassicism, baroque and rococo. His late work is characterised by Impressionism. As a court painter, he painted portraits of aristocrats and popular scenes of Spanish society. After his stroke, he produced etchings using the aquatint technique, which became known as "Los Caprichos".
"Spring" - between Baroque and Neoclassicism
The genre scene "The Maypole" shows several adults erecting a huge tree. A wreath is attached below the treetop, giving the tree a festive dress. Four small children are holding on to the long trunk of the tree. Other people have gathered around the tree. The style of painting is classical to baroque. Bright daylight makes its way through the clouds, giving the scene a particularly realistic effect. The painting was created between 1786 and 1787. The original hangs in the de Montellano Collection in Madrid.
May is the main flowering season for many plants and flowers. The merry month symbolises good weather and fertility. With Goya's Maypole, you can bring the blossoming spring directly into your living room! As a poster, the tree can be framed, glued or pinned. The high-quality special post paper reproduces the colours excellently and bathes your home in a picturesque light.
"Spring" or "The Flower Girl" is a detail from an originally larger scene. It shows a lady in half-profile, holding a rose in her hand. The painting style is romantic to rococo. The original painting ‘La Primavera’ was designed by Goya for the royal dining room. It was intended to cheer up the king and his entourage at dinner. The enchanting motif is as delicate as a flower. It creates a velvety soft atmosphere. As it is a dark picture, it is very suitable for hanging in the bedroom.
As a canvas picture, it resembles the original, an oil painting. The colour-intensive picture has a strong colour saturation and long colour fastness. The solid spruce stretcher frame has a long lifespan, so there are no limits to spring in your home.
"The blind man's buff game" also depicts a scene. What we know today as a children's game was a leisure activity for aristocrats in Goya's time. At court, the game served to amuse adults. The resulting picture conveys cheerfulness and merriment.
‘The blind man's buff game’ is available as a wall print. You receive a semi-gloss, self-adhesive vinyl film around which you can stick a frame. The wallprint sticks to smooth surfaces and can be removed without leaving any residue. If you want to draw even more attention to the image motif, use a passe-partout. This way, Goya's play with light is shown to its best advantage!
"The Hermitage of St Isidore" was created in 1788 and now hangs in the Prado in Madrid. The motif was originally designed for the Infanta's bedroom when Goya was court painter. The painting style is neoclassical with oil on canvas. Saint Isidore is a ploughman and the patron saint of farmers. He ensures sufficient rain and a good harvest. St Isidore is a simple farm labourer who is particularly hard-working and obedient. He helps people and is now the patron saint of the Spanish capital Madrid.
"The Hermitage of St Isidore" is available as a hard foam wall mural. You will receive a high-quality art print with a frame. The mural has brilliant colour reproduction. A wall mount and spacer are already included in the set.
Francisco de Goya as a contemporary witness
‘The sleep of reason gives birth to monsters’ is an etching from the series ‘Los Caprichos’. The gloomy picture dates from the time after his stroke. The artist is now deaf. At this time, the French Revolution was raging in France. Goya, who was concerned with the ideas of the Enlightenment and denounced the abuses in Spain, was persecuted by the Church. He later went into exile in Bordeaux, where he remained until the end of his life.
The 43rd sheet in the series "Los Caprichos" (The Whims) is the only one in which the title is written inside the picture. ‘El sueño de la razón produce monstruos’ can be translated as ‘The sleep of reason gives birth to monsters’ or ‘The dream of reason produces monsters’. The ‘Caprichos’ are 80 etchings in aquatint technique. The 43rd sheet shows the artist himself asleep at the table, being haunted by bats, owls and a lynx. The etching illustrates the inner conflict of the artist, who is trapped in a world that he does not like.
Goya's desire for freedom and democracy is more relevant than ever. As a glass picture in the entrance area, it conveys values and brings inner clarity. Our glass pictures look elegant and fulfil today's requirements for a sterile home. They can be cleaned with glass cleaner. With the help of spacers, you can create a free-floating look in the room. You can order the wall mount at the same time if you wish!
